Ocean explorers, Wayne and Karen Brown, bring their world-wide ocean explorations to life with their high-energy, fast paced, multi-media presentations that combine actual specimens, biological models, life-sized inflatable animals, unique props, costumes, creative dramatics, storytelling techniques, high-tech SCUBA diving equipment, audience participation, and breathtaking underwater photography.

This Virtual Author Visit will be projected onto the screen in the Library Program Room. This program will be "Zoom with Tammi Sauer: Books Take People on Adventures." She is the author of numerous picture books, including Wordy Birdy, Cowboy Camp, Chicken Dance, Nugget & Fang, and Mary Had a Little Glam. In addition to winning awards, Tammi’s books have gone on to do great things: Chicken Dance: The Musical is currently on a national tour, and Your Alien, an NPR Best Book of 2015, has been published in Italian, Spanish, Korean, and French. Were parrots their preferred pets? These common myths about pirates and many others will be discussed by Captain Zephaniah W. Nash, an expert pirate if ever there was one. This program is recommended for upper elementary ages and older. No registration needed.

Lucas Miller’s Singing Zoologist concert is a dazzling, multimedia blend of music and science. Giggle, sing, and move, as you learn about wetlands, clownfish, sharks, plankton and more. Lucas has reached millions through his school programs and through his YouTube channel, “Science Up with the Singing Zoologist.” His recordings have won many awards and he was named an “American Masterpiece” artist by the National Endowment for the Arts, but it’s really the notes from generations of fans that are his highest honor. Please join us for this special family event to wrap up the “Oceans of Possibilities” summer reading club. All ages. No registration needed.

An exhibition of swordplay, using various weapons and styles of fighting, as two duelists engage in an affair of honor -- a duel to the end! Both armed and unarmed combat are used in this program, which consists of both the exhibition of the fighting itself and explanations and demonstrations of just how performers are trained to engage in stage combat -- the art of simulated violence.

The ancient Egyptian craftsmen produced beautiful jewelry designed for both royalty and commoners of the day. This jewelry was created for adornment and magical protection. Historian Rollin Phipps will discuss the significance of the materials and designs used in ancient times. A display of necklaces, bracelets, and rings dating back 2,500 years will highlight the event. Join us for this special exploration into the world of Egyptian art.

SPACE ENGINEERS CHALLENGE

Using the Space Engineers software environment, student participants will team up and work together to engineer and automate resource harvesting and production. Teams will also need to engineer and build spaceships to transport these products in order to store it. The team that accumulates the largest storehouse will be the victors. Think of it as a blend of Minecraft and Legos in space. 

This program will be ongoing from June 1st through July 15th every Wednesday and Friday from 1:00-2:30pm.  Participants should plan to make it to the majority of the sessions as this project will require a large amount of time to complete. There are only 12 spots available so registration will be required. Click here to register.
SUMMER BATTLE-BOTS ARENA

Battle-bots are back! Using Lego Mindstorm robotics kits, teams will engineer and build and program a robot as well as a remote control in order to compete in a final day of head-to-head robotic battles. This program will be ongoing from July 19th through July 30th, Tuesday through Saturday from 1:00-3:00pm. Participants should be able to make it to the majority of the sessions as this project will require a large amount of time to complete. Halo meets Fortnite in the new Halo Infinite mode Last Spartan Standing.  The Esports Academy will be hosting a private Last Spartan Standing Halo server throughout the summer. Players will be able to jump in with friends to practice strategies, learn all the nooks and crannies of the new map, and see who will be the Last Spartan Standing. All skill levels welcome!
ESPORTS ACADEMY: GOTTA CATCH ‘EM ALL MINECRAFT POKEMON SUMMER CONTEST

Throughout the summer, the Esports Academy will be hosting a Pokémon hunting contest on our Minecraft server. Each participant will be given a Gotta Catch ‘Em All Pokémon Tally Sheet that they can build on over the summer.  Players may also grow their Pokémon tally while attending any free play events over the summer. The top 3 Pokémon totals will be in the running for fabulous prizes.

Join us for the Valorant Champions Tour Viewing Night at the Esports Academy. The North American Valorant Champions tour continues this week and we will be streaming the live event as well as opening up the computers for Valorant matches and training. The Esports Academy will be hosting its monthly Super Smash Bros tournament Sunday, July 31st. Show off your skills as you compete against other local players for prizes as well as bragging rights.
Available for checkout: Wi-Fi hotspots!
These hotspots can provide reliable internet at home or on the go for multiple devices. Hotspots circulate for three weeks and are eligible for auto-renewal just like books and movies. Please ask at the circulation desk for availability or place a hold through the library catalog. Limit one per household.
